Physical Education
Welcome to the NeneGate's Physical Education department. We are proud of the PE department and how successfully it has been developed in to the bespoke curriculum. The PE staff are highly committed to developing the curriculum as well as extra-curricular programme.
Physical Education is a major core subject, with up to two hours of compulsory PE for all pupils in year 7 to 11 and is also offered as an option subject at KS4 as a GCSE.

NeneGate strive to give pupils the best sporting experience possible as well as providing them with the skills to lead a healthy & active lifestyle. By the end of KS4 all pupils would have taught the key concepts of PE.

Examination Subjects (KS4)
NeneGate School currently only WJEC Sport Level 1/2 award/certificate. The course consists of 3 theory lessons per week and 2 practical lessons. The course is a 2 year course and will start at the beginning of year 10. Through the subject pupils have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
Sports Campaigning *
Sports Analysis
Improving Sporting Performance *
Skills Development
Fitness for Sport *
Increasing Participation
Sports Events *
Sports Technology
Learners must complete ALL *mandatory units and THREE optional units completing 7 in total
The course will enable students to go in to the sports industry and take on roles as teachers, coaches, sports development officers as well as access sport courses at college

- A sports hall consisting of 1 badminton court and 1 basketball court
- Extensive playing fields with football goals on
- 1 outside basketball court which is converted to tennis during the summer term

KS3 pupils should be taught to:
- Use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games [for example, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby and tennis]
- Develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports [for example, athletics and gymnastics]
- Perform dances using advanced dance techniques within a range of dance styles and forms
- Take part in outdoor and adventurous activities which present intellectual and physical challenges and be encouraged to work in a team, building on trust and developing skills to solve problems, either individually or as a group
- Analyse their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best
- Take part in competitive sports and activities outside school through community links or sports clubs
KS4 pupils should be taught to:
- Use and develop a variety of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in team and individual games [for example, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby and tennis]
- Develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports, [for example, athletics and gymnastics], or other physical activities [for example, dance]
- Take part in further outdoor and adventurous activities in a range of environments which present intellectual and physical challenges and which encourage pupils to work in a team, building on trust and developing skills to solve problems, either individually or as a group
- Evaluate their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement across a range of physical activities to achieve their personal best
- Continue to take part regularly in competitive sports and activities outside school through community links or sports clubs.
