KS2 Curriculum

KS2 Curriculum

In our Nurture Hub the emphasis is on learning through play. This facilitates breaking down barriers to learning and supports developmental progress which will lead to an increased level of self-confidence for the children. Social and emotional areas of learning are built on which should support a resilient attitude.
Academic learning is offered through differentiated, small achievable tasks allowing the children to experience instant success. This work is presented in a creative, topic based approach. This academic year our topics are;

The Moon, Easter Island and the Christmas Story, London, Charitable Organisations, Sugar and Track and Field Events/ Sports.

In Literacy lessons we are looking at, capital letters and full stops, simple sentences and lists for commas, verbs & nouns, adjectives & adverbs, story openers , onomatopoeia and writing for a purpose.

Numeracy lessons will be focusing on place value, number confidence, addition and subtraction, multiplication & division, shape, symmetry and nets, weights and measures & fractions.

Our science lessons will be based around predicting results, gravity & forces, reversible and non-reversible states, habitats, life cycles, food chains and classification, teeth & the digestive system.

We are also learning some skills in cookery lessons which include spreading and knife techniques. We will make goodies to sell at our school Christmas bazaar. Some lessons will be based around cooking with eggs, pasta, rice, potatoes & studying healthy eating and presenting food.

Each topic is highlighted by a memorable experience which include, visiting the Cathedral, the Pantomime, hatching chicks in school and taking care of frogspawn. We will be visiting the food bank, crops growing locally and being harvested in the Fens and finally a trip to the running track.

Other subjects include outdoor learning, swimming weekly and horticulture. We visit the park often.

In PE lessons we will be enjoying tennis and racket skills, volleyball, cricket and athletics.

Alongside these subjects our art and design activities are based around our topics.
