Curriculum
Our curriculum caters for a wide range of ability and talent, and provides students with a broad, general education of the highest quality. Great effort is made to ensure that all pupils can access the learning that is offered.
Each pupil in the school has personal targets, which form part of their Individual Education Plan (IEP). The targets are referred to throughout the school week. These targets are reviewed weekly with the pupils to help them make progress. Teaching methods will vary according to the age and needs of the pupil. Class groups are no larger than eight pupils with a class teaching assistant to aid the learning. To support the pupils to develop an awareness of their own behaviour and attitude, the school operates a point system. In this system, every session carries a point total. If sufficient points are earned and if the child is demonstrating suitable behaviour, activities will then be available for 2 lessons on Wednesday afternoon and 2 lessons on Friday morning. Activities include:
In Key Stage 4 pupils study GCSE English, Maths, Science and have options in the following subjects: PE, Food, ICT, Multi Media, Horticulture and DT Resistant materials along with access to a range of college courses. Sex & Relationship Education Sex education is an important part of the curriculum for all pupils. It is also a subject, which is treated very differently within the school departments of the school. With younger children the focus is on feelings, family, relationships and celebration of life, including the acknowledgement that humans as well other animals, live and reproduce. As pupils develop they are more able to understand the complexities of reproduction, growing up and the changes that happen in the human body during adolescence. Parents and Carers are welcome to contact the school staff at any time if they wish to discuss any aspect of this programme. |
