‘Extending the Boundaries of Learning’ and ‘Learning outside the classroom’.
We believe that this is important because it allows for creative learning experiences and can enhance academic attainment and personal development. This helps our students to become well-rounded citizens and supports them in their life beyond school. We encourage and promote these values through participating in local and national trips and visits, through bringing in guest speakers, visiting national museums and participating in many events. We also encourage outdoor lessons in many subject areas, and we have allocated space on our school grounds for a forest school and school garden. Students access a practical learning timetable that includes Horticulture, Forest School, Active Learning and DT/Food. Our Enrichment and Positive Learning Experiences also provide students with the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom.
NeneGate provides students with opportunity for residential trips to Aberdovey and Kingswood, alongside numerous day trips. Day trips have included visits to local colleges, the Natural History Museum, Hunstanton, Woburn Safari Park, Tallington Lakes, Hammerton Zoo and local businesses.
We celebrate and publicise our trips through our regular newsletters.
NeneGate School is currently working towards their Learning Outside the Classroom Mark which is a scheme that celebrates schools who provide meaningful experiences beyond the classroom across the whole curriculum, indoors and out, on and off site.

What is Outdoor Learning and how does this extend the boundaries of learning?
‘…Outdoor Learning is a broad term that includes discovery, experimentation, learning about and connecting to the natural world, and engaging in environmental and adventure activities. Outdoor Learning involves the transformation of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviours through direct engagement with the outdoor environment for the personal and social benefit of individuals, families, society and the planet. Purposeful experiences in the outdoors can be a catalyst for powerful and memorable learning…’ (English Outdoor Council)
‘…Outdoor Learning can provide a dramatic contrast to the indoor classroom. Direct experience outdoors is more motivating and has more impact and credibility. Through skilled teaching, interpretation or facilitation, outdoor experiences readily become a stimulating source of fascination and personal growth…’ (Institute for Outdoor Learning).
