Film Studies
Welcome to the NeneGate's Film Studies department.
This is a 2-year GCSE course in which students will learn key film techniques from cinematography, mis-èn-scene, sound and editing techniques so they are able to comprehensively analyse a variety of film genres.
Students are expected to develop their knowledge of US mainstream film by comparing a film from 1950s and a later film from 1970s or 1980s, thus looking at two stages of Hollywood. As well as this, students are expected to look at a more recent independent US film, as well as films from Europe, South Africa and Australia.
The course is assessed by 3 separate components.
Film is an important part of many people’s lives. The WJEC Film Studies course is designed to draw on learners’ enthusiasm for film and introduce them to a wide variety of cinematic experiences. The course should inspire students to learn new skills that are transferable to adulthood and potentially lead them onto future careers in Media.
